FOOD AT SONNY’S KITCHEN

Our food philosophy as Sonny’s Kitchen is simple. Take the best ingredients and produce genuinely delicious dishes. That can be anything from a beautifully prepared carpaccio of scallops to an excellent burger. We’re a neighbourhood restaurant and we know that our customers like to be able to come to us for a quick casual meal or for special celebrations, so our menu spans all those options taking equal care to make sure that every dish is the best it can be.

OUR CHEFS

Our team in the kitchen is led by head chef Andrew Chelley, and Andrew in turn works with Sonny’s Kitchen co-owner Phil Howard (one Michelin Star, Elystan Street) and Michelin starred chef Mark Kempson (head chef at our sister restaurant Kitchen W8 in Kensington). Our menus change regularly to take advantage of  the best seasonal produce including locally grown fruit and vegetables from the gardens at Fulham Palace.

SERVICE

We pride ourselves on good service and are very lucky to have General Manager Alan Parry in charge of our waiting team. Alan brings charm, and relaxed efficiency  to the service at Sonny’s. We like to treat our customers with care. Our regular customers know that we know their favourite wines and favourite tables and we greet them like old friends when they visit. We love meeting new people and welcoming new customers, so if you haven’t been before or visited recently you can be sure of a genuinely warm welcome.

WE LOVE BARNES

Barnes is a special and close-knit community and we’ve been part of Barnes since 1986 so we’ve served generations of Barnes families. Our key team, owners Phil Howard and Rebecca Mascarenhas, Head Chef Andrew Chelley and GM Ludo Cosson all live locally. We all love the area, love seeing our regular customers and we’re very much involved in the local community and initiatives such as the Barnes Food Fair.

OUR TEAM

There’s a hugely experienced team of people behind Sonny’s Kitchen, from award winning chefs, to a great front of house team and a restaurateur with over 30 years experience of running some of London’s best restaurants. We also all from Barnes. It’s our home and we’re dedicated to ensuring that Sonny’s Kitchen is the brilliant neighbourhood restaurant that Barnes deserves.

ANDREW CHELLEY

Head Chef
Andrew Chelley started his career at Sonny’s but between leaving Sonny’s and returning this year he cooked at Skylon, Bluebird and Atelier Joel Robuchon and La Petite Maison in Instanbul. Andrew loves dishes of deceptive simplicity, great ingredients brought together to make harmonious combinations. He believes cooking is about pleasing people rather than showing off with cheffy tricks.

ALAN PARRY

General Manager
Alan has joined us from our Michelin starred sister restaurant Elystan Street where he was restaurant manager. He has worked in hospitality both in the UK and New Zealand and his efficient, unflappable and friendly approached means that we have a very happy and well run team of serving staff which in turn leads to very happy customers.

REBECCA MASCARENHAS

Co-owner
Rebecca Mascarenhas specialises in opening and running great neighbourhood restaurants.  She opened Sonny’s, her first restaurant, in 1986 after recognising that there was a need for local restaurants that offer everything that a good central London restaurant can provide.  Her formula has worked, and over the years more restaurants have followed including HomeSW15 in Putney and the Michelin starred Kitchen W8 in Kensington and Elystan Street in Chelsea.

PHIL HOWARD

Co-owner
Phil Howard is one of Britain’s best chefs. He held two Michelin stars for 19 years in succession at The Square in Mayfair, before selling it in 2016 and opening Elystan Street in Chelsea. His new restaurant gained its first Michelin star in 2017. Together with Rebecca Phil also co-owns the Michelin starred Kitchen W8 in Kensington . Phil’s approach to food is about harmony of flavour and cooking seasonally. He’s exacting in his approach but the end result is truly comforting and delicious food.
